University students can book a face-to-face meeting to discuss all kinds of issues relating to academic writing, such as defining the topic, structure and argumentation, language and style, finding and evaluating scholarly sources, word processing, templates etc.
Note that all our consultants welcome international students.
Appointments are offered on a very regular basis during the semester, on the first floor of the National Library, click HERE to book. This fall we will offer appointments on Mondays 9-12, Tuesdays 12-15 and Thursdays 10-13. Moreover, The Writing Center of the School of Education offers appointments in the National Library on Mondays 13-17 (English tutoring) and Wednesdays 9.30-12.30.
About the appointments
Who is it for?
All students, both undergraduates and graduates at the University of Iceland, from all schools and faculties. The appointments are free of charge.
Except for the director of the Writing Center, all the advisers are graduate students in the School of Humanities.
What kind of written assignments can you bring to the Writing Center?
You should feel free to bring all kinds of written assignments, from short course papers or reports to doctoral dissertations. We advise students through all stages of the writing process, from early planning and brainstorming to final revisions and editing.
What is done at the face-to-face meetings?
Our advice is intended to supplement instructions given by teachers or other experts in a particular field of study. Among many other things, we assist you in defining the topic of the essay, framing research questions, argumentation, structure of the text, language and style, evaluating source material, references etc.
